Water

WATER
Film made with Pauline Thomas.

We made the film Air, and then Water. Though by this time she was not so present.
Pauline died in January 2016.

As Pauline’s body struggled to cope with bone cancer her kidneys struggled to maintain the correct balance of water in her body, just as the world struggles with the effects of water levels due to climate change.

LET THIS DARKNESS BE A BELL TOWER
Quiet friend who has come so far, feel how your
breathing makes more space around you. Let this
darkness be a bell towerand you the bell. As you ring,

what batters you becomes your strength. Move back
and forth into the change. What is it like, such
intensity of pain? If the drink is bitter, turn yourself to wine.

In this uncontainable night, be the mystery at the
crossroads of your senses, the meaning discovered
there.

And if the world has ceased to hear you, say to the
silent earth: I flow. To the rushing water, speak: I am.

Rainer Maria Rilke
Sonnets to Orpheus, II, 29

ABOUT ELEMENTAL DIALOGUES: AIR AND WATER
Films representing air and water were sent out to international sound and word artists who created interpretations. Our intention when making the films was not revealed to them – thus their poetry and sound pieces were true interpretations as they saw it.

“There’s no one truth, there are only competing stories”.
